Tractrix Symmetry

Edgar Tractrix

Edgar style Tractrix works and works well. The Edgar design allows for easy DIY building using wood top and bottom sections and bendable sides.


  The down side the Edgar design is narrowing  of the throat on the horizontal axis. Does it sound bad? Absolutely not! Can it be better? Yes. 


This is in no way criticizing Bruce Edgars design, I would not be building horns today if it weren't for his work.

Symmetric Tractrix

Symmetric Tractrix minimizes throat narrowing by allowing all 4 side of the horn flair to grow evenly rather than the restrictions of having 2 straight expanding surfaces and 2 curved expanding surfaces. The benefit is better off axis response, and improved imaging. This is the primary reason I switched to Elliptical Tractrix. The issue with Elliptical designs is they require cutting or custom grills for installation. With the help of ALK engineering and 3D printing I was able to build rectangular symmetric horns that are drop in replacement for your favorite Klipsch Heritage designs.


While some Klipsch engineers say changing mid-horns and tweeters in heritage designs is a Bonehead move.  I say take a close look at their current designs.  All Tractrix!
